Airstream art

"The freedom of the open road, the big landscapes of the Southwest, shiny Airstream Trailers and vintage trucks seem to call out for me to paint them"

I love Monument Valley and combine the iconic skyline with a vintage trailer and it just screams Americana. Glorious!

vintage airstream trailer at white sands with plastic flamingos

We must have taken the Airstream to White Sands National Monument  3 times already, we love it so much.  I love surreal it feels, how bright all the colors seem against the blinding white sand dunes and how the Airstream seems even more shiny than usual.

Valley of the Gods in Utah is one of my favorite places to camp.  You can boondock right next to the monuments and the views are amazing.

Beautiful morning light picking out the edge of the canyon beyond the trailer.

We spent a weekend with friends camping in this shady spot.  12 x 12" in a black wood frame with gold accents.

A vintage truck and Airstream, the ocean, palm trees and pelicans flying past and you have glamping heaven!

I love this campsite near Gallup, New Mexico where you can park right up next to the red rocks and enjoy all the reflections.  Magical.

vintage airstream trailer at a campsite with picnic bench at sunrise
We found the Navajo Monument camping site after dark, a magical mystery tour climbing uphill through trees, not knowing what to expect.  In the morning we woke to a glorious landscape, ancient juniper and pinon and a walking trail to cliff dwellings.  Such a treat!

vintage airstream trailer with black ford truck with a view of Taos mountain

Before we sold our 1956 Airstream Overlander, we shined her up and took her for a drive around some local beauty spots in the golden evening light. The mountain looked very pretty with it's long shadows and the trees were bright green with their new leaves.

Vintage Airstream at the Blue Swallow Motel, Route 66 Albuquerque New Mexico
I was given this photo to work from by the owner of this beautiful vintage trailer at an Airstream rally in Texas.  It is her trailer at the famous Blue Swallow Motel on Route 66 in Albuquerque.

vintage airstream trailer by the Rio Grande Gorge overlook on a snowy day
Escaping from the cold for some winter sun, we stopped at the Rio Grande Gorge overlook just south of Taos and still had a layer of snow on the roof of the trailer.

vintage airstream trailer at white sands national monument with a bright blue sky

White Sands National Monument is one of my favorite places to visit with our Airstream.  The whiteness of the sand looks so improbable  and bounces the light around, making the trailer look even shinier than usual!

We were driving towards Texas through an open, almost deserted stretch of road in South-east New Mexico near Wagon Mound.  I wanted to capture the wide open landscape and the warm late afternoon light.

One of my favorite camping spots ever was on National Forest land near the north rim of the Grand Canyon.  After being uncomfortably hot at Arches and Monument Valley, the nights were delightfully cool here and the views went on forever.

I found this Airstream parked and looking lived in up at Taos Ski Valley just before the ski season was about to start.  I loved the view of the mountain and ski trails behind and the challenge of painting the scene with the back light.  15 x 30" in a black and gold frame.

vintage Airstream trailer surrounded by aspen trees in the fall
The glorious yellows of the turning aspen trees against the dark evergreens at Santa Fe Ski Basin were truly dazzling that day.  Irresistible!

Waking up to the gorgeous sunrise was one of the highlights of our visit to Big Bend National Park in Texas.

Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico is a magical place, peaceful yet stimulating.  The rock formations seem to have an energy of their own.  8 x 10" oil on canvas in a black frame with gold trim.
On my first visit to Arches National Park in Utah, I fell in love with the red rock formations, so beautiful!  12 x 12" oil on canvas in a black and gold frame.

I particularly enjoyed how the truck and trailer sat in the pool of light in the car park.

To me, Airstreams and Monument Valley are iconic Americana that go together so well.  12 x 16" oil on panel in a marbled gold frame.
Marfa Texas is such a cooky place and this art installation of a replica Prada store, in the middle of nowhere surrounded by sagebrush and tumbleweed made me giggle.  16 x 20" oil on canvas panel in a gold leaf frame.

We got our kicks, driving along Route 66 and parking our vintage trailer next to the roadside attractions and retro signage.

One of my absolute favorite views is approaching Monument Valley from the north and seeing the monuments along the skyline.

A gorgeous vintage tow vehicle with a mirror shined Airstream trailer by some monumental landscape - what could be better?

Acoma pueblo is a magical place. Being around the rock formations made me feel both relaxed and excited at the same time. A visit to the pueblo on top of a high mesa called Sky City is really worth the trip.

Visiting Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, I met the proud owners of this beautiful Airstream and had them pose it for me with the red rocks behind.  12 x 24" oil on canvas in a gold leaf frame.
On our big road trip to The Grand Canyon, we just had to stop by this wonderful rock formation near Vermillion Cliffs.  20 x 20" oil on gallery wrap canvas with the image continuing around the sides.

Saguaros have so much personality.  I wanted to give them all names.  11 x 14" oil on canvas panel in a black wood frame with gold accents.

Here are some more of my truck and Airstream paintings, featuring the remaining works from a series of oversized truck paintings I did a few years ago.
